The Animal Control Division enforces all State and City Laws/Ordinances, investigates dogs at large, nuisance complaints, sick or injured dogs, cruelty complaints, rabies related complaints, removal of deceased CATS and DOGS that do not have an owner from the roadway, and education of animal care needs. We are not  pest control, or wildlife rehabbers or trappers. If you have an issue with a pest at or in your home you will need to contact a specialist to assist you as we are not licensed to handle such services.

Do you offer dog adoptions?

Yes, we offer dog adoptions. Visit our adoptable dogs page to learn more.

Do you offer dog boarding?

No, we do not offer boarding as space and licensing does not allow

Are you a kill shelter?

No, we have worked very hard obtaining the “No Kill” Status. We do not euthanize for space unless absolutely needed, we attempt every effort to place each dog that comes into the facility and currently only euthanize in serious cases of illness or injury  

What is considered an after hours animal emergency situation?

Dangerous/vicious dog at large – See Chapter 8 Animals for Definition Animal Bite Sick or injured animals.

Does the City of Moberly require registration/license for my dog(s)?

No, the City of Moberly does not register/license dog(s).

Is a rabies vaccination required even if my dog or cat stays indoors and/or is friendly?

Yes, all dogs and cats living within the City Limits of Moberly must be up to date on the rabies vaccine. The vaccine must be done every year by a licensed veterinarian.

Does the Animal Control do anything with wildlife, like bats, raccoons, or opossums?

No, per Section 10-95 – Minimum Standards, if there is a wild animal (Vermin and Rodents) in a persons living quarters, the owner of the dwelling shall be responsible for the extermination of. Definiton: Vermin (colloquially varmint(s)[1] or varmit(s) are pests or nuisance animals that spread diseases or destroy crops or livestock. Raccoon, Opossum, Groundhogs, Squirrels etc, have been known to spread diseases such as distemper & rabies.

I want to donate items to the Animal Shelter, how do I do this?

Thank you for your donation. You can contact the Animal Shelter at 660-833- 7330 to schedule dropping off items at the shelter. Do you help with the cost of spays and Neuters for cats or dogs?

No, we do not offer this service for individuals. Low cost options are available through the local rescue, Saving Dogs 4 Paws at a Time by visiting their website at www.savingdogsrescue.com or at the Columbia Spay Neuter

Do you offer cremation services for pets?

Do you house cats or adopt cats out?

No, at this time we do not have suitable space to house cats.

What are the Impound Fees?

$25.00 initial impound fee then $8.00 per day after. This fee is assessed for any dog that is picked up as a stray or wandering and brought to the facility. Each dog that enters the facility will be microchipped before being released back to the owner. 

What to do if your dog has been picked up by animal control.

Dogs picked up as running at large or as strays are placed on a 5 (five) day stray hold. If a dog is not claimed by their owner after the hold period it becomes property of the shelter. Owners may claim their dog anytime after 11:00 am during normal business hours. You will need to bring your driver’s license, rabies certificate from your vet and cash or check to pay the fees.
